eLearning Days are Coming

This entry was posted in News on by .

Oregon Davis School Corporation is committed to challenge and prepare our students with skills for the 21st century.  Four major 21st century skills include communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.  Additionally with these skills, Oregon Davis School Corporation is dedicated to provide a rigorous and relevant curriculum that is planned, student-centered, technology infused, and research-based for the success of all of our students.

In the past year, Oregon Davis School Corporation utilized eLearning Days in the event of inclement weather.  We will not continue this procedure; rather, we will utilize scheduled eLearning Days.  The scheduled eLearning Days will allow our staff and students to plan and prepare for this off-campus experience.

Oregon Davis School Corporation has scheduling eLearning Day for the spring semester which will include the following scheduled snow make-up dates:

– Monday, February 20, 2017

– Monday, April 17, 2017

The two scheduled snow make-up days are due to closing school on Friday, September 23, 2016 and Monday, December 19, 2016.

Information from the building level and each classroom will be forthcoming to each parent on the lessons and expectations for each day.  Contact Mr. Bennett, Mr. Pletcher, or myself if you have any questions regarding eLearning Days.

— Dr. Donald E. Harman, Superintendent

In 2007, the Oregon-Davis boys and girls basketball teams made history by becoming the first team in Indiana history to win the boys and girls basketball state championship in the same year.  On December 3, 2016, we will be honoring all of the state championship teams. This will include the 2007 boys, 2007 girls and the 2014 girls state championship teams. The teams will dedicate the newly constructed trophy case to the community. The game on December 3, 2016, will be a boys game vs John Glenn. The ceremony will take between the Junior Varsity and Varsity games. Tip off time for that Junior Varsity game is 5:00 CST.

Reading At Home Increases Student Achievement

This entry was posted in News on by .

Oregon Davis builds in time for students to read at school each day, but research shows that this may not be enough. Students who read at home in addition to reading at school tend to have an increase in student achievement. Below are some ways to incorporate reading at home!

  1.     Read the cereal box each morning
  2.     Find a reading website or app that your child enjoys
  3.     Look up information about a favorite subject on the computer
  4.     Take regular trips to the library
  5.     Start a book club with friends
  6.     Model reading by reading in front of and to your children
