Reading At Home Increases Student Achievement

This entry was posted in News on by .

Oregon Davis builds in time for students to read at school each day, but research shows that this may not be enough. Students who read at home in addition to reading at school tend to have an increase in student achievement. Below are some ways to incorporate reading at home!

  1.     Read the cereal box each morning
  2.     Find a reading website or app that your child enjoys
  3.     Look up information about a favorite subject on the computer
  4.     Take regular trips to the library
  5.     Start a book club with friends
  6.     Model reading by reading in front of and to your children

The elementary has started a new “Student of the Month” program. Classroom teachers and other staff nominate deserving students for student of the month. Each child receives a certificate and gets their picture taken for a bulletin board. They also receive a special treat. Then all of the students names are entered into a drawing and a name is drawn out for a special prize.

The nominees for September were: Hudson Danford, Kynlee Orr, Sophia Blosser, Madison Zelaya, Hailey Godoy, Ashlyn Snyder, Zoey Byers, Annabell Pierce, Bailee Frazier, Isaac Both, Hannah Danford, Emilie Blair, Colson Pitts, David Weiger, Kylee Bradley, Caleb Seese, Caiden Wilson-1st, William Rosinkski, Anthony Brantley.

Kynlee Orr’s name was drawn out and she received a certificate for lunch with Mr. Bennett and four of her friends.
