March is Reading Month

This entry was posted in News on by .

Reading is celebrated across the nation during the month of March. Oregon-Davis has many activities planned in our buildings, but you can also celebrate at home with your student. Here are some great ways to incorporate reading into the month of March, and beyond.
Go Book Shopping. This can be done anywhere from Barnes & Noble, Amazon or the library. Ask friends, librarians and teachers for some great book recommendations.
Get Comfortable. Designate a special spot in your house for reading. Fill it with pillows, blankets and books. It doesn’t have to be big.
Set Aside Family Reading Time. It is a lot easier to get everyone reading if everyone is doing it together. Set aside a designated amount of time each night. This may include reading a book as a family or everyone reading on their own.
Celebrate With a Movie. As a family you can choose a book that also has a movie. After you read the book together, you can all settle in and watch the movie together. You can even have a discussion about which one you thought was better and why.

ISTEP+ Testing Starts Soon

This entry was posted in News on by .

Attention parents: Indiana students will begin the 2015-2016 ISTEP+ exams soon. Our testing window will be from February 29 through March 11, 2016. ISTEP+ will administered to Oregon-Davis in grades 3-10. This is the first of what will be two rounds of testing. The final round coming in May.

Please help us ensure every student has the best chance to be successful on this year’s ISTEP+ exams. You can help in these ways:

● Talk to your child about the importance of the test. We want a true assessment of their abilities.
● Make sure your child has plenty of rest for the test. A good night’s sleep before can make a big difference.
● Remain positive about the test. Let your child know they can be successful, and they will feel better about their chances to be successful.
● Don’t forget to ask your child about the test. Communicate with them that you want to know how well they did on the tests.
● If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school to receive any clarification.

Together we can make this a meaningful and positive experience for all our students. We appreciate all your efforts!
